Local? It doesn't
get more Local than this! and with probably the least food miles of any commercial
egg produced in the country. All eggs are produced on the farm, and our hens
are fed a feed ration which is milled on the farm using ingredients of which
70% is also produced on the farm (see Own Feed
Mill). So the eggs have very low food miles.
Where is the egg stall? Right at the entrance to Cornhill Farm. Try putting our postcode TR14 0DH into www.multimap.com to see the farm map, the stall is at the entrance (where the Ordnance Survey map 202 turns from yellow to white at map ref. 617404).
What's for sale? There are 30 egg trays of mixed egg, these are eggs with slight shell imperfections that we can't sell to Waitrose (our main contract); very large eggs in 20 trays, graded ½ dozens and ½ dozen double yolker/jumbo eggs. When we have young hens in (twice a year), we have 'pullets' eggs for 3 or 4 weeks, these are ideal for salads and small scotch eggs. The next date for pullets eggs will be mid August (2008).
As these eggs have such low food miles, help save more, buy a tray for a friend! Please note:- They are always our eggs. We have never bought in eggs to keep up with demand; we have four flocks, and always have at least two flocks laying at any one time.
