Contracting

This is the first year we have had our own combine since the 1960s. With our growing cereal acreage it is now economic for us to run our own combine. In addition we will be combining for other people during July, August and September. Pete will be running this enterprise, and he has had extensive experience working for two contracting firms in the USA (combining from Texas to the Canadian border), and in New Zealand (grass and maize silaging).

We have a New Holland TX67 combine with a 20ft header, it is a 6 straw walker machine with a special narrow width, so hopefully we will be able to 'boldly go where others fear to tread'! We also have two grain trailers (12 and 14 tonnes) to work with the combine, and we may be able to supply additional tractors and men. We can chop your straw if required, and can supply you with yield maps of the fields we combine for you, giving you a chance to see the better patches, and correct the poorer patches in your fields. Please call Pete for availability and more details.

Combine just arrived. More pictures to follow in the season

Report August 2008:- The season is turning out to be a very wet one! We have only managed to cut 12 acres of wheat so far, and the forecast for this week (beginning 11th August), and for next week is showery nearly every day. With the prospect of most of the grain being harvested in a wet condition, we have bought a second 12t dryer to compliment our existing 12t batch dryer. This should double our drying capacity, and hopefully enable us to meet the requests from our customers to dry more grain. It will also mean one man will be fully employed at our yard filling and unloading the two machines.

We hope for long enough breaks in the weather to enable us to combine, and to dry the grain.
